J-Sw!ft’s “I’ll Do Mine” Drops September 14th!

Time to get pumped, peeps!  A new single is coming from J-Sw!ft, former Pharcyde producer and star of the upcoming documentary 1 More Hit.  The ambitious and resilient rapper/producer’s fresh track “I’ll Do Mine” has an amended release date of September 14th.  That’s only a few weeks away.  If you can’t wait, click over to Amazon.com to get a tiny taste of his amazing new track.

It’s been a solid five years since J-Sw!ft’s latest release.  Wonder what’s been going on with him during that time?  Catch the documentary 1 More Hit coming February 1, 2001.  This film chronicles J-Sw!ft’s perilous plunge into the depths of drug addiction, jail and homelessness.  Lucky for him and us alike, J manages to summon his unstoppable spirit and courage in order to pull himself out of this deadly abyss.

It was out of these terrifying times that “I’ll Do Mine” was born.  J strives to “unite all the drug users” with relatable lyrics such as, “You do your drug, and I’ll do mine”.  “I’ll Do Mine” features hip-hop stars St. Imey (formerly of The Wascals) and L.A.’s Black Geenie.  “I’ll Do Mine” also features an autobiographical B-side called “Off My Chest”.

What’s next for J-Sw!ft?  An alter ego, of course.  J will be busting out his brainchild Negro Kanevo! sometime next year.  You’re not gonna want to miss that!

One Cell Presents New Singles From J-Sw!ft Coming August 24th!

Mark your calendars, because on August 24th One Cell Records is proud to be releasing new singles from J-Sw!ft.  For those of you who don’t know, J-Sw!ft is probably best known for producing Pharcyde in the early 90’s.  A dvd is on its way a few months after that.  The two singles are:

“I’ll Do Mine”
– produced by J-Sw!ft, with vocals from J-Sw!ft and St. Imey

St. Imey used to rap for The Wascals, a group often referred to as “The Baby Pharcyde”, due to their inherent similarities.

“Off My Chest”
– produced by Detail (who is R-Jay and Akon’s producer), with vocals from J-Sw!ft

During his lifetime, J-Sw!ft has run the gamut from sublime success to a personal and professional nadir complete with homelessness and drug addiction.  The latter is what prompted J’s new handle, “Negro Kanevo!”

J-Sw!ft’s tumultuous musical journey began with a smooth ascent when he impressed many while enrolled at a piano conservatory at age 6.  He made the most of his late teens by winning over R&B musician and producer Reggie Andrews, which eventually enabled J to start writing for A&M and BMI Records.

After that, J worked with Pharcyde, producing many hits for them including the memorable “Passin’ Me By” in 1993.  But his triumphant days were numbered.  Things began to roll back downhill around ’94, when J’s father passed away.  The latter half of the 1990’s brought J-Sw!ft a treacherous fate including depression, a faltering career, drug addiction, homelessness and even jail time.  His venture into Hell and back was chronicled in Shauna Garr’s documentary entitled 1 More Hit.

1 More Hit Trailer

Never giving up, J-Sw!ft kept on keeping on, regaining his footing slowly but surely, recording new tracks from 2005-2010, utilizing the wisdom he acquired during the tough times to make new beats with an inspirational message.

So here we are in 2010 and J-Sw!ft is back and better than ever.  Keep it tuned here to One Cell Records and check out J-Sw!ft’s up and coming digital-only tracks this August 24th!

Get Saucy with Rossi this Summer

One Cell couldn’t be more pumped about the burgeoning success of our own DJ sensation Rossano Snel.  Let’s update you on the latest in Rossi news.

Rossano has been furiously gigging in Brazil, with shows getting bigger and better all the time.  When he becomes really huge, we can all say we “knew him when”.  One of the most exciting bits of Rossano’s latest achievements is the placement of his song “Nossa Conversa” on the soundtrack of the “BearCity” movie.  According to bearcitythemovie.com, the film is “set in New York’s gay ‘bear’ scene, taking a cue from the popular HBO franchise ‘Sex and the City’.  ‘BearCity’ follows a tight-knit pack of friends experiencing comical mishaps, emotionally sweet yet lusty romantic encounters and a cast of colorful, diverse characters as they gear up for a big party weekend.”  The movie will be released later on this summer, so keep a lookout for it.  If you haven’t heard “Nossa Conversa” from his Gallery EP, hear it at Rossano’s myspace page here, along with a few of his other great tracks.

Rossi recently played some gigs with VJ Astronauta Mecanico, who created all of the visuals for his sound.  If you want to experience Astronauta yourself, check out these two videos for which she did the all of the graphics.

Video One – Music by Lindstrøm

Video Two – Music by M.I.A.

Rossano’s working on a summer mixtape for you all, so be ready for some new material very soon.  He’s also been doing a lot of networking across Brazil all the way to Argentina, so look out for more slammin’ tunes coming your way.

As always, visit onecellrecords.com to listen to our free music stream, learn more about our artists, and order some cd’s and digital download from our amazing artists.

Rossano Snel

Rossi is up for POA Beat’s “Best Electronic Music Producer of 2009”.  Get over to POA’s website and cast your vote for Rossano right now!

Rossano’s “Tumpah” is listed first for Juno’s April jazz recommendations.  If you haven’t bought “Landscape” yet, now’s about the time!

In terms of shows, Rossano’s been busy as usual.  On April 29th he played a free show at the Alley Diskoclub, along with other DJ’s like Schutz, Random Brutal Love, Caio B, Camila Vargas and Thiago Moraes.

Burro Morto

Speaking of being busy touring, Burro Morto has been doing just that.

Check out this blog entry (in Portuguese) on PB1.com that discusses Burro Morto’s tour in connection to the unique challenges faced by Brazilian artists.

Can’t get down to South America but want to see a Burro show and you want to see it now?  Download the recent Guaxupé show here.

Here’s a nice little review about the Dead Donkey’s recent show at the APR Club.  The reviewer acknowledges how much Burro has grown since Varaduro.

Go West Young Man

GWYM has a few play dates this month in California.  May 19th they’ll be at the 3 of Clubs in Hollywood, and May 21st is the show in Echo Park with Francis and the Lights.  Be sure to attend if you’re in the area!

Damin Suarez has another new song for you – this one’s titled “Relativity”.  Head over to the One Cell site to hear this solemn but poignant little gem.

Kiko Dinucci

Need a Kiko Dinucci fix?  Check out this Soundcloud to hear six streaming tracks from Kiko featuring the sugary vocals of Karina Ninni.  Nothing beats free tunes.  Find it here.

If you need visuals to go with your music, watch these new videos uploaded by our friends at Desmonta of a Dinucci performance on April 25th.  They feature Kiko with his usual collaborators, Mauricio Pereira, Juçara Marçal and Thiago França, among others.  If you didn’t know, Kiko is also a talented visual artist, and these performances are accentuated by a video backdrop of Kiko creating his art.

Updates Galore!

What’s up, my friends?  Time to check in once again with our various One Cell artists.

First up: M. Takara.  We first want to clarify that his EP “Cocada” is being released by One Cell Records, with a vinyl version being released by Desmonta.  Only 2 weeks to go until it’s released!  Those of you who will be lucky enough to attend the SXSW festival in March can check M. Takara out on the 17th.

Don’t forget, Burro Morto’s concept album “Baptista Virou Máquina” should be coming out March as well.  Check out video teaser #3:

The City Beat event (hosted by One Cell Records) will be coming to L.A. April 8th.  Rumor has it that DJ’s Crash Overdrive and Disruption will be performing.  Both are from the B.E.A.R. (Briefcase Rockers) label.  If you haven’t heard their music yet, Crash Overdrive echoes influences from Daft Punk, while Disruption is a bit more dark and urban.

The City Beat party should be coming to São Paulo and Porto Allegre in May with the help of our own Rossano Snel’s efforts.  Stay tuned to One Cell for all the up-to-date details!

While we speak of our love for Rossano, why not click over to 4shared.com  to listen to a new track from Rossano Snel called “Abstract”.  It’s really good and you should check it out!  We like to consider it a hip-hop samba.

Kiko Dinucci’s new album is getting a lot of attention (of course)!  Check out Folha’s feature of Kiko and this review by the Brazilian branch of Vice Magazine.

...and one more thing  If you're in the Los Angeles area, Go West Young Man has a show tonight at the Echo in Los Angeles.for Buzz Bands LA.  Catch it if you can!  Details are here.

That’s it for now, but keep it here for the latest updates on your favorite bands.  Is there any One Cell band or artist that we've missed?  Leave a comment and let us know who you want to hear about!
