One Cell Presents New Singles From J-Sw!ft Coming August 24th!

Mark your calendars, because on August 24th One Cell Records is proud to be releasing new singles from J-Sw!ft.  For those of you who don’t know, J-Sw!ft is probably best known for producing Pharcyde in the early 90’s.  A dvd is on its way a few months after that.  The two singles are:

“I’ll Do Mine”
– produced by J-Sw!ft, with vocals from J-Sw!ft and St. Imey

St. Imey used to rap for The Wascals, a group often referred to as “The Baby Pharcyde”, due to their inherent similarities.

“Off My Chest”
– produced by Detail (who is R-Jay and Akon’s producer), with vocals from J-Sw!ft

During his lifetime, J-Sw!ft has run the gamut from sublime success to a personal and professional nadir complete with homelessness and drug addiction.  The latter is what prompted J’s new handle, “Negro Kanevo!”

J-Sw!ft’s tumultuous musical journey began with a smooth ascent when he impressed many while enrolled at a piano conservatory at age 6.  He made the most of his late teens by winning over R&B musician and producer Reggie Andrews, which eventually enabled J to start writing for A&M and BMI Records.

After that, J worked with Pharcyde, producing many hits for them including the memorable “Passin’ Me By” in 1993.  But his triumphant days were numbered.  Things began to roll back downhill around ’94, when J’s father passed away.  The latter half of the 1990’s brought J-Sw!ft a treacherous fate including depression, a faltering career, drug addiction, homelessness and even jail time.  His venture into Hell and back was chronicled in Shauna Garr’s documentary entitled 1 More Hit.

Never giving up, J-Sw!ft kept on keeping on, regaining his footing slowly but surely, recording new tracks from 2005-2010, utilizing the wisdom he acquired during the tough times to make new beats with an inspirational message.

So here we are in 2010 and J-Sw!ft is back and better than ever.  Keep it tuned here to One Cell Records and check out J-Sw!ft’s up and coming digital-only tracks this August 24th!
